40 AL CONSTRUCTION NEWS JAN-MAR 2017 SINCE WHITE-SPUNNER CONSTRUCTION WAS FOUNDED IN 1981, the company has achieved many successes: expanded into more than 27 states across the country, completed more than $2.4 billion in total construction value, won numerous awards and created many significant client relation- ships. Last year alone, the company was named one of the best companies to work for in Alabama and was awarded more than 13 retail projects. Now, 35 years after the company was started, its leadership isn't slowing down. In fact, they are celebrating 35 years in business with plans for westward expansion into Texas. This vision for growth and ability to succeed stems from the company's drive to provide excellence in construction while work- ing ethically and honorably. "We want to treat people the way we want to be treated," said company President and CEO John White-Spunner. "Keeping that ideal in mind has contributed to our success and ability to develop long- term relationships with clients. We make a sincere effort to understand our clients' business and find solutions to their unique needs." White-Spunner became president of the company at the age of 24, shortly after earning a degree in building construction from Auburn University. Early on he was committed to getting the business licensed in several states and start working on building relationships. That meant getting to know potential customers well and trying to understand their business. "In our industry, there can always be lots of reasons why something doesn't work, and our approach is to avoid those scenarios and find solutions," White- White-Spunner Construction Marks 35 YEARS by PAIGE TOWNLEY MAD E I N M O B I LE
