The federal group has already made plans for a D.C. Fly In, as well as prepare transition team talking points to ensure construction's concerns are on the minds of those being appointed by President-Elect Donald Trump. Within the state of Alabama, some obvious pieces of legislation are getting early chatter across the state. A potentially new coalition called the Alabama Alliance for Infrastructure Funding is taking shape, and this group's members will be spearheading all efforts regarding a comprehensive plan for infrastructure funding across the state. While this bill takes shape there is even discussion of particular projects that may receive a first round of funding, Legislative Corner THIS YEAR, MID-GULF HAS BEEN HOSTING ITS NEW MID- GULF LEADERSHIP SERIES. The program was designed for those who have a desire to build a network of peers that will benefit their company financially, while also enhancing their skills in order to advance within their company. Attendees also get the opportunity to hear from current industry leaders about what they feel sets them apart and pushes them to the top of their game. The Series has been hosted at Thompson Engineering, and it is a four-part series. Topics have ranged from lean construction and OSHA to leadership best practices and governmental affairs. "We are thrilled to be offering this to our Mid-Gulf members," said ABC of Alabama's Mid-Gulf Director Shelley Rehberg. "We have had a great turn out thus far, and we are excited about providing them with opportunities to network and learn about ways to increase their skills and improve their business." The Leadership Series will continue with a breakout session on lean construction for those that are interested in learning. For more information or to sign up, email Shelley at shelley@ abc-alabama.org. Mid-Gulf Leadership Series should legislation be secured. As previously reported, the historical tax credit legislation is going to be a primary focus for ABC of Alabama. The association also is in discussions with the Senate regarding a potential revision to Alabama's work comp laws, and we hope to release that draft in early January 2017. A subcommittee of the legislative committee is meeting regularly regarding the sprinkler legislation, which has made its way to Montgomery for the last three years without passing. As an association, we still stand firm that sprinklers have a place in residential settings and single family dwelling settings. We must ensure that the credibility of sprinkler contractors is protected by ensuring any legislation includes continuing education that gives individuals installing sprinklers the knowledge they need so that homeowners don't have a false sense of security.
