From the President THE MOMENTUM AND PASSION contained within the pages of this Alabama Con- struction News issue is in a major part due to our outgoing Chairman Randall Curtis of Hoar Construction and our current Chairman David Pugh of Bradley. On page 52, you will see crystal clear how David Pugh's history with our industry and our association had him ultimately prepared to go to work day one. His diverse roles in the industry afford ABC of Alabama to have a leader, a con- tractor, an engineer and an attorney holding the gavel for the next 12 months. Without a doubt, the most pivotal change in our industry is the referenced Academy of Craft Training starting on page 24. Under the leader- ship of John Windle (Ard Contracting), Allen McCain (Bright Future Electric), Allen Harris (Bailey-Harris Construction), Todd Walker (ABC), elected officials and state employees, craft training has changed forever. The most obvious change that's highlighted in this article puts contractors not only advising this training center, but also running it. When jobsite experience teaches kids eager to be in construction, the results are overwhelming and I hope you take that from reading about our what is going on at the Academy. For contractors more focused on a new administration than craft training, only one word needs to be said: Trump. From both a state level and a federal level, our associa- tion has developed our asks, which is a list of items that have far too long handcuffed and hindered contractors from being in charge of their business, creating jobs and driving the economy. With those two items of momentum, I would only ask one favor. For the first time ever, by the end of January our board of directors had identified over 125 companies they are requesting to join our association. To ensure our mission is implemented and funded, we need members, and we need individuals willing to serve. If you are reading this publication and want to be part of an association advancing the construction industry enthusiastically and daily, please join. Jay Reed President, ABC of Alabama
