DESIGNED FOR SUCCESS SINCE THOMPSON ENGINEERING FIRST STARTED IN 1953, the company has earned a solid reputation of engineering excellence. While its assets and capabilities lie in many different areas, there's one that stands above the rest. "The strength of our company is its people," said John Baker, Thompson's president, chairman of the board and CEO. "Clients are certainly important to us, and they come at the top of the list. But right next to them are those employees who interact with our clients." This employee-owned company started out 64 years ago as a small firm focused on geotechnical investigations and construction materials testing (CMT), and it has grown into a major presence in the southeast, priding itself on being a full-service design firm with an emphasis on transportation and heavy, industrial based engineering. Thompson even offers architectural and building envelope design through its sister company, Watermark Design. The company works in three primary markets: transportation, industrial and federal. "We also have a pretty sizable state and local government market as well," said Baker. "We have the capability to provide a full service, turn-key solution to our clients." by PAIGE TOWNLEY Thompson Engineering is celebrating its past achievements while looking to its successful future
