46 AL CONSTRUCTION NEWS JUL-SEP 2017 B UILDING & EARTH'S HIGH QUALITY SERVICE, UNIQUE capabilities and dedication serving the design and construction teams on the projects they are associated with have distinguished the company in the marketplace. With the capability to work in 35 states, the company is building upon those solid skills to work on major projects all over the United States and beyond its borders. Building & Earth has made strategic acquisitions over the last few years that have led to substantial geographic expansion. The company 's first acquisition was KAM Engineering, a North Carolina- based company. "This helped us expand our bench strengh to provide services on large scale projects, many of which were in the federal arena in the Mid-Atlantic states," said Deepa Bhate, the company 's founder and CEO. " While we have been doing that type of work for a while, this acquisition gave us the ability to significantly increase our capacity to serve those clients." The acquisition gave Building & Earth the ability to add a location in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to better serve clients in the area, including those working on large projects at Camp Lejeune. But the company didn't stop there, making its second acquisition last year of Christian Testing Laboratories. This acquisition strengthened Building & Earth's position in the South Alabama marketplace, giving the company its fourth and fifth locations across Alabama in Montgomery and Summerdale. "This also enabled us to expand our geotechnical exploration capabilities due to the addition of an in-house drilling department, which included four drill rigs, thereby helping us service our geotechnical and environmental clients more expediently," said Jeff Cowen, the company's president and founding partner.
