JOURNAL ABC OF ALABAMA MEMBER AND SOUTHERN CARPET, HARDWOOD & TILE OWNER TIM HIGHTOWER HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO ABC'S NATIONAL PAC BOARD. "For around 20 years now, Tim has played such an instrumental role in speaking up for the small- to medium-size contractors, serving as the voice of subcontractors in the boardroom and with our state legislative process," said ABC of Alabama President Jay Reed. "That experience makes him a perfect candidate to represent the Alabama Chapter on a federal level. We appreciate Tim giving so much of his time to make our industry better, and we look forward to supporting him in his new role." Hightower represents the southeast region, which includes the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The Board held its first meeting in June in Washington, D.C., and they have already allocated some funds to congressional candidates that support the merit shop philosophy. "Our goal as a Board is to help elect candidates who are friendly to the construction industry and believe in merit shop," said Hightower. "We hope to advance pro-business policies and impact regulatory reform. We need to elect those who support this agenda." Members serve a three-year term on the Board. The funds allocated by the Board go directly to individual candidates and their election and/ or re-election efforts. "Here in Alabama we are fortunate that many of our House and Senate members support what we are fighting for," Hightower said. "But what we have to remember is that there are some real battleground states out there with major contests going on for seats in Congress. We have to help our friends in those states when it comes to getting the right person elected." 59 JUL-SEP 2017 AL CONSTRUCTION NEWS A B C P A C B O A R D M E M B E R S "Our goal as a Board is to help elect candidates who are friendly to the construction industry and believe in merit shop." –Tim Hightower
