10 AL CONSTRUCTION NEWS OCT-DEC 2018 BUILDING ALABAMA | PROJECTS Grand Hotel ALABAMA LANDMARK WRAPS MAJOR RENOVATION The Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa in Point Clear recently completed a $35 million renovation, rebranding the facility as part of the Autograph Collection of hotels. Known as the "Queen of Southern Resorts," the Grand Hotel first opened in 1847. Overlooking Mobile Bay, the resort holds a Historic Hotels of America distinction and has withstood the test of time—through war, fires, and hurricanes. JESCO, Inc. was tapped as the company to help restore the hotel to its former glory. Renovations to the Grand began in the fall of 2016 and included all 405 guest rooms— which consists of 23 different room types—37 suites, the 35,000-square foot Conference Center, the pool, spa, hardscape and landscape. All of these renovations and additions were completed while the hotel was in service, occupying guests, visitors and staff. During the project, the facility was also brought up to code to comply with current American with Disabilities Act. This recent renovation is among the most extensive transformation to the Grand Hotel since it originally opened. Construction also included the addition of two new restaurants, Southern Roots Restaurant and Bayside Grill. Also added was a new bar, 1847. The pool area also added 11 cabanas, as well as a splash pad. Now complete—renovation wrapped earlier in 2018—the Grand Hotel now features a full-service spa, two Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses, seven restaurants and lounges, two beaches, multiple pools and 37,000 square feet of renovated meeting space on 550 total acres. "The project turned out very well," said JESCO Senior Project Manager Brian Slaughter. "We are proud of this project because the facility has so much history, so it's always great to be involved in something like this."
