62 AL CONSTRUCTION NEWS OCT-DEC 2018 HALEY CALLAWAY HAS LONG HAD AN INTEREST IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. Her father, David, helped instill that curiosity and interest in her from a young age. " When I was a kid, I would always watch my dad when he was doing some sort of construction work," she said. "I enjoyed watching him and helping him out when possible." From that early interest, Callaway chose to check out some trades while in high school at Pell City High School. After realizing that she enjoyed the hands-on work, she decided to apply for a spot in the Academy of Craft Training. After being accepted, she studied welding there her senior year of high school, even taking part in an internship program with FabArc Steel Supply in Oxford. While at FabArc she got to further her knowledge of welding, doing visual welding inspections and even eventually getting in the booth to be hands-on.
