MAYBE SOON I CAN BE FISHING; MY YEAR IS ALMOST OVER. Where did it go? What did WE do? We developed the Platinum Partner program, vital to our effectiveness and performance. Words can't express our gratitude to you "Platinum's"—a million kudos to all those Partners. We cinched up and broke the PAC record for contributions, and in two months. Right behind it we capped the membership drive and moved on. Yes, we exceeded our goal by two members at the end, so thank you members for doing your part and putting it to bed early. That's what WE did. We started guest participation invitations at Board meetings. We gained members; it has been effective. What better way to share what we do? Wouldn't you know it, our roof had to be replaced, so we took pricing, replaced it and are paying for it on time to maintain reserves. And we reinstated our reserve account with some $35,000 as seed money. That's what WE did. Working closely with our Academy of Craft Training (ACT), John Windle took over the helm as Chair. Through Mark McCord's 's and Todd Walker's efforts, it is stronger than the first year. We obtained state funding and a Craft Training Board grant to fund our dear Academy, not a little feat, that took much time by many people, probably as important as anything we accomplished all year! And more good news, the Academy has almost repaid the ABC those borrowed funds from last Fall………..that's what ACT did. The Convention at the Pearl was one to remember. Wow, what fun, what content, what presenters, what food, and what a grand time assembling ourselves together. And we get to do it again next year! It is critically important for our body that we join together in support and increase engagement across the gamut, not only at conventions but at our meetings and functions. Traveling to Mobile five times this year for networking and safety has brought the Gulf members back to the table. Again, because of the commitment of our people that make the trek and spread the news. That's what WE did. As a member of the "voice of the construction industry trade association in Alabama," you would expect that our business is in order fiscally. Working with our accountant and staff, I can assure you that we are black and that the audit will show it. In closing, we recall that Penn National expired after many successful years. Cincinnati Insurance is our new provider, and we are grateful for this new partnership and are already quoting accounts for January 1, 2019. The effect, however, will make next year a huge challenge for Buddy, the Board and the Association. It is not our nature to use reserves. So my final parting words are to remind all that we are one, a body, and whatever affects the arm affects the body. I want all of us to rise up, cinch up and stay close…………..that's what WE must do next year. Allen Harris CEO, Bailey-Harris Construction, Inc.
