MCGILL, HEALTH AND SAFETY COORDINATOR AT VOLKERT, INC., HAS BEEN NAMED THE NEW REGIONAL SAFETY DIRECTOR OF ABC OF ALABAMA'S MID-GULF REGION. "At Volkert, safety is a core value, and our core values do not change," said McGill. "As regional safety director for ABC of Alabama, I am afforded an opportunity to promote and foster a culture of safety throughout the southeast. I want to shift safety from being a company 's priority to becoming a core value." McGill has been with Volkert for 23 years, and he has more than 35 years of experience in construction/program management, construction administration, observation and inspection of projects. His primary responsibilities at Volkert include implementation of the company 's health and safety plan, working with Volkert's regional safety coordinators and office safety personnel, continuing to foster the culture of safety within Volkert. At Volkert, McGill developed a wallet card for all Volkert drivers and glove box folder for all Volkert vehicles. These two innovations have facilitated timelier reporting with uniformity and consistency of information and has prompted faster and more thorough gathering of vital data, including witness statements and supervisor's investigations. This, in conjunction with the driver safety training he developed and teaches, has increased driver safety awareness while risks and claims are reduced. McGill has served on the Gulf Coast Chapter Board of Directors of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) since 2008. He is a member of the National CMAA Construction Quality Assurance and Chapter Relations Committees, as well as a member of the Mobile and National Chapters of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). McGill is an authorized OSHA trainer for the 30-hour and 10-hour construction safety courses. McGill is a Certified Monstruction Manager (CCM) and in 2017 was the recipient of the prestigious CMAA's Chairman's Award. He holds a Certificate of Safety Management (CSM) from the ASSE and is a Certified Hazard Control Manager (CHCM) and Certified Emergency Disaster Professional (CEDP), both credentials from the International Board for the Certification of Safety Managers.
